As a new mum it’s hard to handle the fact the world can be filled with so much danger, so much worry and so much fear. When everyone enters the world as a baby, there is only love in their hearts, there is only the expectation of love, there is only purity of spirit. If we could all stay this way, what a wonderful world it would be.
A happy world is one that’s in harmony, one where people relate to the humanity in each other, where universal values of love, trust and peace prevail. It’s gut wrenching for mothers to know that we cannot protect our children from everything that is wrong in this world, whether it be a classroom bully or a threat to their future.
What can a mother do other than follow her instincts? Surround her children with love, fill their world with joy, teach positivity and kindness, hold them a little closer, snuggle them a little longer, play with them a little more?
It’s a hard lesson to learn, that, while being a mother you want to do your very best by your children, but realising that while you are their whole world, you are but one person in the world. How can that be enough?
That’s why we have to cherish every moment. Realise how lucky we are. Accept that we can but do our best. And remember that a mother’s role is to teach love. Love is still the most powerful of all emotions. Love is the way forward. Love is all we have to give.
